Caring For Your Extensions, After You Leave The Salon
Step by step guide to care for your extensions. Everything you need to know is in here!
Washing
+ Brush hair to remove any tangles and to prevent matting before showering.
+ Separate & clip up each row. shampoo/condition each section separately and split on to each shoulder.
+Use the recommended shampoo + conditioner to get the most life out of your extensions. Extensions NEED moisture to last.
+ Gently shampoo all of your natural hair, and in between your rows as well.
+ Do not scrub vigorously. I suggest a double shampoo to fully clean the hair.
+ Rinse well. Do not leave any product behind.
+ Apply recommended conditioner/masque on your mids-ends. You can use a wet brush to evenly distribute the product. If masquing I recommend leaving it on for 15-20 minutes to really see results.
+ Rinse well. Do not leave any product behind, especially at the root.
+ I recommend a weekly mask to really hydrate your hair and extensions. You have to keep the extensions VERY hydrated to preserve the life of the wefts.
Brush + Blowdry
+ Place your hand on the top of your weft (closest to root) then start gently brushing from the ends and work your way up. Once fully detangled you can brush scalp to ends.
+ You can also section off each row and brush everything separately to ensure all of the tangles are out. You must brush your hair everyday to prevent matting.
+ Apply a recommended heat protectant.
+ Rough dry your hair 80% of the way (No tugging at the extensions with a round brush or comb. Use only your hands and fingers.)
+ For a faster blow dry, section out each row and rough dry them separately.
+ You can use a round brush and a small amount of tension to smooth your hair and the extensions, the last 20% of your blowdry.
Styling
+ Your extensions can be styled like normal, but always use a heat protectant before using hot tools. This means you can wear them straight, curled, in a high ponytail or in any kind of braid!
+ Always use salon quality products on your extensions to preserve the life of your wefts.
+ Your main focuses should be keeping your hair tangle free and hydrated as well as keeping any unnecessary tension off your real hair.
+ The extension hair holds style very well so you can usually just touch up your style on your front pieces and the top of your hair as needed throughout the week (meaning less heat on your hair and less time styling!)
Sleep
+ Brush thoroughly and make sure you're going to bed with DRY hair.
+ Do one or two loose braids and secure with a silk scrunchie. A loose low pony is another option.
+ A silk pillowcase is highly recommended.
